Annual Appeal

Dear Friend,

Our 90th anniversary is fast approaching! From our beginnings in 1918, the C. C. Mellor Memorial Library has created a tradition of providing information to our community. Times have certainly changed the library scene, but your C.C. Mellor Memorial Library has stayed in the forefront of community service. We are proud to have consistently performed among the top 10 libraries in Allegheny County in circulation, programming and computer use.

What a difference ninety years make! Our founders never would have envisioned their community center serving five boroughs with a lively Main Library and a busy Branch. Our Fred Rogers Children's Room is a constant buzz of activity, far from the days when children were "seen and not heard" and award-winning outreach programs for kids are held in all five communities. Once staid Adult Reading Rooms are enlivened by computer-education classes, book discussion groups for many tastes, and vibrant displays of today's bestsellers. Your access to the eiNetwork's extensive collection of online databases has moved the library beyond its walls and into your home. But a friendly librarian is always available to personally answer your questions.

What's ahead? We want to continue to provide you and your family with all that you need in a library, along with the level of friendly service that you expect, in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. But to accomplish this we need to partner with you. Your partnership is needed to maintain this level of service while increasing collections, enhancing computer access, adding programs for kids and adults, and improving our presence in communities without a branch library.

By filling out the attached form and returning it in the self addressed envelope you are taking a major step in helping the C.C. Mellor Memorial Library serve our community for years to come.

Here's to another ninety years!

Sincerely,

Greer and Gary Mulholland
2008 Annual Appeal Chairs

P.S. We have successfully acquired grants to help in maintaining the buildings, adding to the collections, establishing wireless environments and increasing programs. Your partnership helps us when applying for these special gifts. In addition, the Library receives State and County funding based on a formula that rewards local support. That's great leverage for your contribution.
